Teacher Librarian (Cyberarian) & Media Tech Integration Specialist


Teacher-Librarian:

An experienced, certified teacher, with additional qualifications in the selection, management and utilization of media technology and other learning resources, who has responsibility for administering the school library and media centre and for working with classroom teachers to design and implement instructional programs and curricular resources.

In addition, the teacher-librarian works with students to develop their media technology and digital citizenship skills, as well as to foster the gradual release of responsibility from guided information search strategies to independent ones by the senior grades. "Teacher-librarian" is synonymous with "school library media specialist."

Primary role of the teacher-librarian/technology integration specialist at Mt. Sentinel:

  1. Research, develop, and implement innovative technological tools and practices that support and enhance a forward thinking educational direction for education at Mt. Sentinel
  2. Lead teacher for Technology Team in order to develop a technology plan for the school
3. Collaborate and plan with Library Assistant including implementing Library Goals
4. Lead an Action Research project based on technology in learning and 21st century learning skills
  1. Guide the adoption and use of innovative and "best practices" technology within the curriculum (including one-on-one, workshops, pro-d, website resources)
  2. Teach students acceptable and safe internet practices within our AUP
  3. Co-develop and co-teach (where applicable) curriculum to implement backward design, inclusion, AFL, and 21st century literacy skills
  4. Teach 21st century research skills from grades 7-12
8. Find and/or differentiate "text" for students including: digital, text, audio, visual, tactile/manipulatives

Secondary role:
  1. Monitor and administer use of Lab 104, 106 and Library & Media Centre (LMC)
  2. Assist in troubleshooting, maintaining, and setting up technology where possible for staff and students
  3. Coordinate tech team, technician, and software/hardware purchases
  4. Assist in other related school events, activities, and school website maintenance/additions as needed
